Hotel Specialist (Hotelfachmann/-frau) 

Hotel specialists are needed in various areas of a hotel, such as housekeeping, reception, restaurant, banquet service, management. They are committed to making their guests’ stay as enjoyable as possible.

Your duties range from room booking, dealing with potential complaints, getting hotel rooms ready and check them, serving meals in the restaurant to organising events, preparing invoices, planning of working processes and supervising staff. Your area of responsibility also includes accounting and stock-keeping as well as administrative work. You’ll negotiate with tour operators and take part in developing and carrying out marketing measures in large hotels.

What is important in this profession?

You should essentially perceive yourself as a host! Communication skills and a sense of customer service are important to consider any special wishes and requirements of the guests. To ensure smooth running of working processes with kitchen staff and inhouse personnel you have to be able to work in a team. Flexibility and resilience are required, since you work in frequently changing situations at a reception desk, in a restaurant or in the administration office. Taking orders and bookings, cleaning and checking of guest rooms, as well as laying and dressing of tables requires attention and accuracy.

Which qualifications and experiences should you have?

We are looking for experienced people. On top of a general qualification in the hospitality industry (such as training courses, vocational school or similar), you should have at least one year of professional experience in a hotel. If you apply for a position as receptionist, you should also be familiar with the standard booking programmes.

Which career prospects do you have?

In the hospitality sector you can be promoted rather quickly, according to your performance. Positions like Banquette Manager, Key Account Manager, Head of Reception, Head of Personnel would be potential targets.

Language skills

To work in this profession you need at least a B2 level of German. Consider the following question: could you pass a job interview in German?

Si su candidatura cumple los requisitos de la oferta, se le informará y se le pedirá que envíe su CV (en formato Europass en inglés o alemán) a Alemania, para que sea ofrecido a los hoteles implicados en el proceso de selección e interesados en contratar personal.

Si los hoteles reciben suficientes candidatos/as, vendrán a España a realizar entrevistas a mediados de noviembre (si su candidatura es seleccionada, le informaremos con tiempo suficiente acerca de los detalles)
