Alcatel-Lucent IP R&D team in Antwerp (Belgium) is part of an international development and test team spread over the world (Mountainview, Ottawa,...) that develops, tests and supports product features for the whole IP Depeartment product range. As an R&D engineer you will have the opportunity and challenge to design and further develop one of the most successful products in the IP rooter market of today: the 7750-ESR internet router for providers and carriers. Currently 20% of world's internet traffic is going through these routers (50% bandwidth growth each year). You will be part of the Alcatel-Lucent IP division, working in a very talented multicultural team (120 members) and in a technically challenging and stimulating environment. Coming years the IP team will work on the convergences of the fixed and mobile world, the explosion of video related applications, the 4th generations of mobile communications. Your goal Implement and deliver an internet router with the highest quality. Your main responsibilities will be Designing and implementing those features that will grow and consolidate the commercial and technical success of the 7x50 products. During discussing with the product managers you will define and detail the new features to be implemented. After the implementation you will collaborate with the testteam to deliver your feature with exceptional quality to the field and to maintain it during its lifetime. Your main challenges will be Be able to learn a lot of complex matters in a short time frame as you need to become an expert in a number of specific internet areas and get a good overview of all functionality within an internet router. Be in close contact with the quality assurance engineers, the product managers, the sales and pre-sales people and the support teams. Define, implement and test your applications to a exceptional quality standard limiting and streamlining as much as possible the test and qualification effort. As this is realtime system for wide deployment throughout the world, it is essential that debug and trace capabilities are included in the applications to support swift fault detection and isolation especially for remote and isolated system. Be able to cope with the responsibility of delivering a feature for which you committed.
