The Junior Programme of Belgian development cooperation recruits twice a year new Junior assistants, to work as a young professional in a project of Belgian development cooperation in one of its 18 partner countries, throughout Asia, Africa and Latin-America.

Our Junior assistants work as young professionals in various areas of development cooperation, with a wide variety of tasks: from elaborating communication plans, leading a survey to monitoring and evaluation of project activities, to giving technical advise as a IT, civil or agricultural engineers, GIS specialists, or health workers... Candidates from all backgrounds are welcomed at the selection procedure, as long as they meet the general admission criteria.



The Junior Programme organizes twice a year a call for candidates and a general selection to get new candidates for their recruitment pool.

Once recruited in our recruitment pool, candidates can apply for various job positions twice a year.



If they're selected for a position, they'll be given employment contract for minimum one year to maximum 2 years, to work in a development project, while being coached by an experienced development worker.

During the whole time under contract the Junior assistants are entitled to:

  • A monthly gross salary of EUR 1417,74
  • Capped reimbursement of accommodation costs
  • Reimbursement of the premiums to take on overseas social security (for retirement, sickness and healthcare coverage)
  • Payment of 13th month, family allowance and double holiday allowance
  • An accident, hospitalisation and repatriation insurance policy
  • A contribution towards transportation costs of luggage
  • One two-way flight ticket per year
  • An individual training budget which the Junior Assistants can rely on for their job as well as for their own career plan
