CollectiveCrunch is an AI leader in the forest industry. We collect climate, geo, and satellite data and crunch this information into AI models for better prediction of forest inventories, forest risks and carbon storage.

The Position 

As (Senior) Data Back-End Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining, and improving our data architecture and data pipelines. Your ETL processes will power our machine learning platform and application.  

You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of backend engineers, data scientists and application developers on a daily basis. This is a great opportunity to work on diverse problems and see your solutions make an impact in the real world!  

Your Background 

You have an educational background in computer science or other relevant technical field and several years of professional experience with data processing and backend development. Your work history includes projects in which you implemented complex data pipelines using Open Source Software. 

Our ideal candidate has: 

  • 5+ years of experience with data engineering / big data / data warehousing / back-end development 
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and relational database design 
  • Professional experience in Python programming 
  • API design and implementation 
  • Good practice in Linux-based server environments 
  • Fluent verbal and written English language skills 

The following skills will be an advantage: 

  • Familiarity with Python-based ETL libraries/tools Distributed data processing (e.g. Airflow) 
  • GIS data processing know-how (GDAL/OGR/PostGIS)  
  • Publishing data via REST APIs  
  • Database/system administration
