Systems Engineer for developing international defence applications

You will contribute to improving interoperability in mission-critical systems

As an IRIS Suite developer, you will work on existing code as well as developing brand-new features.

The IRIS suite has revolutionised how the military handles interoperability in defence missions. In fact, it is the standard for NATO member states for interoperability and military messaging using Message Text Format (MTF) standards. IRIS manages to make the correct completion, editing and reading of MTFs easier, whether being used for the first time or by an experienced operator.

You will be involved in developing a product which is constantly evolving. It has already been in the field for 30 years and is used by more than 100,000 military personnel in 40+ countries. Being at the forefront of developments is paramount, as IRIS is also integrated with other products in our Defence department.

 

Therefore, your tasks will be to:

  • improve our legacy code
  • implement automation testing
  • implement and test software features, which is used in 40 NATO countries
  • help to replace older applications with new technologies and frameworks
  • work with integration between IRIS and our SitaWare Suite
  • produce documentation and work with process development.

Based in Bucharest, you will become part of our IRIS team – a small and international group of 15 colleagues engaged in development, testing, project management and architecture in Denmark, UK and Romania. Together we enjoy a great atmosphere, where there is every opportunity for sparring, writing fantastic code and producing high quality. Together the team have the responsibility for all of the product stages from innovation to release, in cooperation with the Product Owner.

We obviously take an agile approach to our work, and scrum is part of our day to day activities. Together we have created a strong team which ensures good cross-border cooperation.

You are the person we are seeking if you hold a degree in computer science or software engineering, who have some years of experience as a quality-conscious developer. You have now reached a point where you are ready to make a difference in the world with your code, as our developers help the military to minimize the mistakes being made in mission-critical situations. You enjoy challenging yourself with tasks which you maybe have not tried before. So, you are ready to develop personally, in accordance with IRIS which is in constant progress, both in regards of technology and domain.

You possess experience with JavaScript and scrum, have knowledge about object oriented programming paradigms, and it is also important that you work according to Clean Code principles. You are also quick to learn new code languages. Furthermore, we envision that you:

  • understand the importance of structure in the form of good processes and documentation
  • perhaps have experience with other technologies in the project:
    • Java
    • Scala
    • C++
    • ExtJS
  • perhaps worked with TDD and MS Visual Studio
  • are helpful and a team player, because at Systematic delivering quality is not a competition
  • can work independently and with considerable freedom – and achieve high quality
  • are fluent in English, both orally and in writing.
