Want to become part of an international research team on Covid-19 and the news media?

Jyväskylä University School of Business and Econimics is currently seeking to recruit a Research assistant (part-time) for the period of 1 March - 31 December 2021.



Research Assistant is needed to provide assistance to a research team led by Professor Chiara Valentini, Corporate Communication, Jyväskylä University School of Business & Economics (JSBE), Finland. Research funding has been provided by Helsingin Sanomat Foundation. Research team members are from Finland, USA, Italy, South Korea and Australia.

This is a short-term contract (1 March - 31 December 2021) with 60-70 hours of work per month. The Research Assistant is responsible for assisting the research team in a variety of administrative, communication and research tasks. Ideally the applicant will have some knowledge of the news media industry, especially in Finland. This role could lead to a thesis or be directly related to the student’s area of study.

Project title: Covid-19 voices in Finnish news media in the global context: a comparative study of news media’s roles and public perception in pandemic communications across five countries.

Tasks:

Communication:

  • Manage project website, including updating content
  • Manage social media posts
  • Distribute media releases 
  • Assist in writing, editing and disseminating research reports and presentations
  • Translate content from English to Finnish and Swedish and vice versa

Organization:

  • Assist in organization of seminars in Finland and other project related activities 
  • Assist in the management of project schedules

Research:

  • Assist in data collection (e.g., newspaper articles) and analysis

Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong oral/written communication skills
  • Advanced English, Finnish and Swedish language skills
  • Strong organization skills
  • Ability to manage website and social media content
  • Ability to work independently and accurately (orientation to details)
  • Some project management experience
  • Some knowledge of news media industry

Qualifications: Ideally the applicant will be a Masters student or in the process of completing a BA thesis.
