Senior Software Engineer, SMS Team

Note: this role is for a limited-term contract of 6 months with the possibility of transferring on a permanent basis afterwards.



About the team

Do you like to work with recent technologies like Windows Azure cloud system, in a team with experts in their field?

The SMS team is responsible for delivery of SMS from Skype to mobile phones around the world. We develop highly scalable and reliable backend services running in cloud, supporting every day millions of Skype users.

What you will do:

• Full software development lifecycle. Understanding business and technical requirements, creating technical architecture, programming, documenting, creating unit-tests, testing, releasing, maintaining, troubleshooting and fixing bugs;

• Work together with colleagues on code reviews, internal infrastructure improvements, and process improvements;

• Work closely with sibling teams to further improve quality and reliability of the services we provide;

• Explore and prototype new technical solutions, improve internal processes;

• Use cloud platforms on a big scale with geo distribution;

• Grow engineering culture and best practices;

Pre-requisite knowledge, skills and experience:

• Ability to ramp up quickly on new technologies and adopt solution from within the company or from the Open Source community

• A 'can-do' attitude and a desire to improve

• Good knowledge of OOP: development and design patterns

• Knowledge of Internet/web technologies and protocols, REST and good practices of API design

• Solid experience in developing complex, distributed systems in C#, C++ or equivalent languages

• Experience in multithreaded programming, asynchronous and event driven application design

Additional requirements:

• Experience with Azure or other cloud platforms

• Experience with scripting languages (Python, Bash, Powershell)

• Experience with SQL

• Working knowledge of Agile / Scrum development practices

Other considerations:

• Ability to work closely with team members to collaborate on innovative solutions

• Ability to work with minimal direction and is self-driven, pro-active and results-oriented

• Solid written and oral communication skills (English is a must, other languages a plus)
