Wärtsilä Technical Services is looking for a Cylinder Head expert to strengthen the Power Systems and Cylinder Head Expert Team in Marine Power, Field Services & Workshops, Global Expert Operations. This opportunity is offered on a permanent basis and the successful candidate will be located in Vaasa, Finland.

What will you be doing?



A Technical Expert supports our customers to improve the technical and operating performance of our products. We therefore seek you, who holds a broad understanding and a deep knowledge of engine components within the main area of Power Systems and Cylinder heads.



In this role, your work will focus on:

  • Cylinder head components of Wärtsilä 4-stroke small and medium bore engines
  • Provide technical support to internal and external customers
  • Product improvement support; collection, analysing and sharing of field experiences of assigned components of 4-stroke engines
  • New product release support; participation of field follow-up investigations of new engine products
  • Acquire know-how from the latest developments and trends within own expertise area
  • Guide and when needed perform failure analysis of engine components
  • Deliver content for manuals, after sales information and training
  • Support our sales in the retrofit and upgrade activities
  • Support our supply management in validation and development of suppliers

     

The below will enable you to shine in this technical advisory role:

  • M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering or qualified by equivalent technical experience
  • Working knowledge of designing, calculations and manufacturing processes of power system and cylinder head components including principles of materials selections
  • Basic understanding of destructive and non-destructive testing methods
  • Experience of diesel and/or gas engine component operation, maintenance and repair is an advantage
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to innovative technologies
  • Out of the box thinking and innovative mindset
  • Proactive approach, working off own initiative and motivated to succeed
  • Proven success with independent decision-making
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to promote strong working relationships across the business
  • Demonstrable capability to work in a global, multicultural environment
  • Ability to travel globally
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal
