RESP TO DESIGN, INSTALL & MANAGE MISSION CRITICAL IN-HOUSE DEVELOPED SYSTEMS SET UP AT VARIOUS MOBILE NETWORK OPERATORS AROUND THE GLOBE.

 

Our client is an IT company and established international player in the telecommunications industry. They are seeking to recruit a Systems Engineer focusing on the deployment and integration side of the function and form part of this technical team. 

Linux Systems Engineer

MT 1092/15

Working within the Technology Department, reporting to the Systems Operations Manager and working closely with QA and Development teams.You will be responsible to design, install and manage mission critical in-house developed systems set up at various Mobile Network Operators around the globe.We are looking for a seasoned System Engineer, ideally with experience in the Telecoms industry, with the ability to perform problem isolation and troubleshooting in complex environments, adjust plans as necessary and provide alternative strategies to meet changing business needs and anticipate and build contingency plans.

Responsibilities: 

  • Design and maintain highly available setups installed in the Mobile Network Operators’ data centres
  • Coordinate with Mobile Network Operators and Internal stake holders to ensure the product is deployed within the planned time frame
  • Coordinate with Vendors, Service providers and Internal Developers to ensure continued alignment and delivery of key requirements, optimizations or complete solutions
  • Servers Operating Systems’ administration (Linux) including installation, configuration, hardening and updates
  • Deployment, technical acceptance testing and benchmarking of Systems Applications
  • 24x7 monitoring and support of deployed solutions
  • Maintain and develop automation processes for building and deploying software
  • Develop appropriate standards and practices and ensure that they are documented, maintained and applied to all projects and services.

Requirements 

  • Masters or Degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering or equivalent
  • 2-3 years’ experience in Systems Administration / Engineering  
  • Working knowledge in Linux technologies (Ubuntu and CentOS)
  • Knowledge of basic Database Administration (MySQL  and NoSQL Databases)
  • Experience using Scripting languages (Bash, Perl, PHP)
  • Experience using Virtualisation technologies (VMware, KVM)
  • Basic knowledge of TCP/IP fundamentals

Environment

  • fast paced but casual environment – working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • work on own initiative and without supervision
  • Includes travel to remote locations to install the various solutions offered by the company
