Summary

The Junior Software Developer for Space Activities takes part of software development projects in an international and multi-cultural environment for the space sector.

Duties

As part of the project team, baseline tasks of the Junior Software Developer are:

  • Writing software requirements specifications
  • Analyzing, designing and producing technical architecture
  • Implementing software systems according to requirements and architecture design
  • Testing and validating software systems
  • Maintaining and supporting existing software systems
  • Performing training for internal and customer needs
  • Writing technical documents and reports at all stages of the software development process

In addition, the Junior Software Developer can be asked to be member of the on-call pool of Vitrociset Belgium and to provide a support to activities which are not directly linked with this job description, but which are related to the experience and skills required by this position.

The Junior Software Developer reports to the Ground Systems & Operations Unit Manager for what concerns the line-management.

The Junior Software Developer reports to the Project Manager for what concerns the project he is allocated to.

Education and experience

  • M.Sc. or master’s degree in computer science

Language skills

  • English – fluent
  • Customer/partners language/culture is an asset

Software skills

  • Object-oriented analysis (UML), and programming (Java, C++)
  • Integrated development environment (Eclipse, NetBeans, Code::Blocks, Visual Studio Code)
  • Relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL)
  • Desktop application programming basics
  • Web application programming (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP)
  • Version control software (GIT)
  • Background in Linux, and Windows environments

Advantageous skills

  • Object-relational mapping (Hibernate or similar)
  • Desktop application programming (Spring, Vaadin)
  • Web application programming (Java Servlets, GWT, OpenLayers, Leaflet)
  • Web services (Ajax, REST)
  • Message brokers (ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ, ZeroMQ)
  • Knowledge of Space industries, and Open Geospatial Consortium standards
  • Understanding and affinity for digital electronics, logic design, and measurement tools
  • FLOSS (Free, Libre, and Open Source Software) friendly

Soft skills

  • Curious, and pragmatic self-learner
  • Analytical and critical thinking, good sense of organization of work
  • Strong collaboration skills, work as a team member
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
