About The Team
You will work in the Hybrid Platform Services unit responsible for IT infrastructure and application platform services in If Nordics. The unit takes care of a wide range of vital IT services, such as data centers, data networks, data platforms, and content management. The unit is expert in managing various IT technologies, from modern cloud technologies to traditional on-premise solutions. You will join a team of 20 enthusiastic people of Service Managers in the team; Team Leads, IT Architect, Developers, and IT specialists. The team describes itself as a self-driven, committed, and collaborative group of people that work together openly.
About The Role
In this role, you take a Nordic position with overall responsibility for If Java application platforms used by over 60 applications. You have a central role in driving the modernization, promoting architectural vision, and supporting application teams with current and new technologies.
One of your first engagements will be to formulate a Java Platform Strategy jointly with If's IT strategy unit. When completed, you will be responsible for executing the strategy. While the Java area transforms, it gives you opportunities to develop yourself into new areas of expertise. Occasionally, you need to take an active role in solving the platform problem situations providing your knowledge and guidance. Like any role with high responsibilities, you need to follow up on the costs, make budgets, and build business cases. You will be co-operating with If's partners and internal stakeholders to build engagement and transparency in your area. With all this, you have a high degree of autonomy and are empowered to be creative and forward-thinking. In this role you will have an opportunity to grow in the position and drive a vital area in a large company with as much freedom as possible - including the accountability that comes with it.
Who are you...?
To succeed in the role, you should be coming with firm communication and interpersonal skills. The team, stakeholders, and partners consist of people from many different countries and the main daily language is English. You thrive to increase your technical knowledge, but you can also build holistic views and translate technicalities to business terms. You are a person who dares to take the driver's seat to get things done in a structured manner. Most of If's Java Platforms are IBM products, such as WebSphere Application Server (WAS) and Business Automation Workflow (BAW). However, microservices, open-source Java frameworks, container technologies combined with Kubernetes are emerging fast. You are not expected to know them thoroughly initially. Still, some experience in Java technologies coupled with a passion for learning new things is a must. You have some years of experience working in the application development era, have demonstrated successful cross-team co-operation. Preferably you hold a degree in computer science or engineering with a solid technical background.
The role is based in Turku or Espoo with flexible remote work possibilities. Your team will be located in Turku, so in case you are based in Espoo, some travelling to Turku is expected to meet the rest of the team.
