Care Assistant (Health and Social Care) Job Specification and Description:

 

Report to: The Care Manager

 The role of Care Assistant is to:

  • Provide direct customer care in line with Bluebird Care policy procedures/guidance.
  • Provide customer care in line with the direction and supervision of the registered nurse/ clinical nurse manager.
  • Implement the requirements of the customer care plan.
  • Perform duties and tasks which promote customer comfort, safety and wellbeing.

Qualifications:

  • QQI Level 5 Full Award (or equivilent) desirable (Full award must be inclusive of Care of the Older Person Module and Care Skills Modules). *QQI Ievel 5 (or equivilent)  Modules Care of the Older Person and Care Skills essential.
  • Patient Moving & Handling dsireable but full taining is available.
  • First Aid desirable.

 

Experience:
Experience of caring for others in a professional capacity is desirable.

  • Ability to Abilit comply with delegated tasks.
  • English language proficiency.
  • Good written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team while also having the initiative to work independently.
  • Neat professional dress and appearance.

Desirable

  • Experience in working in a care/ service environment. Good problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to follow the instructions of a care plan. Driving License.
  • Own a Smart Phone

Key Work Functions:

(Please note this is not an exhaustive list)
The Care Assistant will:

  • Assist customers with the Activities of Living as determined by the persons care needs assessment.
  • Provide a high standard of care in line with the requirements outlined in the customer care plan.
  • Pay due care and attention to all aspects of care tasks carried out on behalf of the customer.
  • Carry out personal care with respect and dignity and at all times demonstrating sensitivity and empathy with the customer.
  • Be respectful of the care/support environment one is working within.
  • Be compliant with infection control requirements i.e. hand washing etc.
  • Report any concerns he/she may have with regard to any aspect of their role to their Care Manager.
  • Report any concerns he/she may have with regard to the health, safety and welfare of the customer without delay to the Care Manager.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of the customer and the organisation at all times.
  • Comply with Bluebirdcare policies, procedures and guidance with special emphasis on intimate care guidelines.
  • Comply with all the training requirements deemed necessary to support his/ her role.
  • Make known or declare any incapacity regarding health or related issues that may render them (care assistant) unfit to carry out their duties appropriately, and that may ultimately compromise the health and safety of the customer.
  • Complete and comply with safeguarding training.

* In the event of an applicant not having the required QQI Level 5 (or equivilent) modules in Care of the Older Person and Care Skills, but has considerable experience in this area of practice, the Care Manager may interview the applicant and if deemed suitable for the role, employ the applicant on the condition that there is evidence or a commitment from the applicant to undertake within 3 months of their date of appointment, the required two modules at a minimum (evidence of enrolment to undertake QQI Level 5 modules as outlined above should be provided.
