The IT Factory is about to launch its very first office in Portugal and you have the chance to join us on our journey to a market leading company, whilst supporting on setup and ramp-up and growing together with us. We aim to establish ourselves as THE nearshore IT sparring partner for our clients by serving the most critical needs and processes in the chain, from business plan to fundraising and from product development to market launch. In other words, we empower start-ups and entrepreneurs to incorporate their vision and bring it to market! We differentiate, as we don´t only deliver single expertise in individual areas, but instead take a holistic approach, understand the interdependencies and consider those in every step we take.

We are looking for a proactive and motivated Head of Development.

With a broad technical IT background, solid expertise in development and first experience in leading a team, you can easily orchestrate your technical staff, make individuals feel and act like a team and motivate them to enthusiastic high-end performers. You will get the chance to assist on hires and also setup your technical environment. Externally, you will meet great minded international clients and take over responsibility for commitments, results and communications.

Tasks & Responsibilities

You will:

  • lead your technical team of developers
  • set up the technical environment and tools
  • orchestrate, support and mentorship your team members with an “open ear” mentality
  • define guidelines and standards and ensure those are “lived”
  • manage code, builds, issue tracking and deployments with tools of your choice (e.g. Git, Gradle, JIRA, etc.)
  • be the technical engineer and advisor for your designated areas
  • (let) "translate" functional requirements into technical specifications and quickly draft prototypes for customer review
  • develop, implement, test and deliver in an agile and fast manner
  • estimate work packages and make sure those are delivered on time
  • track and communicate customer project progress, internally and externally
  • take responsibility for code quality
  • setup quality monitoring methods
  • report directly to the C-Level

Knowledge & Skills

You:

  • are a “wo/man of word”, reliable and engaged
  • have inspiring and convincing communication skills and a hands-on “can-do” mentality
  • manage to combine customer satisfaction with economical thinking and high quality
  • have the “manager gen” with a holistic view and motivating and coordinating workstyle
  • are excellent and quick in the creation of adequate effort estimations
  • easily convert effort estimations into reliable resource planning on multi-project level
  • strive for efficiency, automation and reusable components
  • are familiar with and know how to apply technologies and methodologies like OOD, UML, Agile, QA, DevOps, PM, BPM
  • think analytical, goal- and solution-oriented
  • work structured and organized
  • want to develop yourself constantly
  • are fluent in English, oral and written

Experience Level

  • 5+ years experience in development
  • 2+ years experience in leadership role
  • Experience in development and QA
  • Experience in Management and Leadership
  • Full-stack generalist working with all different layers, from database and API design, to backend and persistence layer, over middleware up to frontend like web or app
  • Experienced in working with Cloud Computing, Server Systems and Databases

Graduation

  • Bachelor or master degree in computer science, software engineering, physics or alike
  • Certificates are beneficial
