Assisting the Head Chef in the cleanliness and service delivery of food services in the Nursing home while adhering to all food safety and Health and safety regulations.

Host Main Responsibilities:

  • Prepare the dining rooms for all meals to the high company standards.
  • Prepare beverage trolleys and trays, make and serve beverages to residents and visitors.
  • Prepare trays for meals to be served to the residents’ rooms.
  • Collect, wash and replenish water jugs and deliver to residents’ rooms.
  • At the end of each meal in the dining rooms clear and re-set tables promptly for the next meal and ensure that the dining room is left clean, tidy and attractively presented. Where dining room is shared with activities, liaise with the activities co-ordinator and where requested leave tables clean and cleared of all crockery and cutlery, so that they may be easily used for activity purposes.
  • At the end of the shift, put away all supplies and ensure that stock and materials are secure at all times.
  • Obtain menus from chef and assist the residents in making their choice for meals.
  • Ensure that statutory and company requirements in terms of Food Safety, Health & Safety and HACCP are upheld at all times.

Kitchen Assistant Main Responsibilities:

  • Prepare simple meals i.e. vegetables and salad items for service under the direction of the Prepare ancillary service such as bread and soft drinks.
  • Ensure dining areas are clean, tidy and attractively presented. Prepare dining areas for all meals including laying tables with clean & polished cutlery, glassware and condiments.
  • Prepare and deliver meals trays or beverages to residents, relatives and guests.
  • Prepare and deliver beverage / food trolleys as required by the chef. As food maybe served from the trolleys they must be attractively presented to excite the appetite of the
  • Collect trays and dirty crockery from resident’s rooms, lounges, dining areas and other areas and return to the kitchen.
  • Wash dishes by hand or place in dishwasher, where appropriate. Store clean items neatly and safely to minimise breakages.
  • Sweep and mop kitchen floors, keeping them free from grease or spillage at all times along with worktables, surfaces, walls and kitchen equipment.

  • Segregate and remove rubbish and place it in designed containers.
  • Comply with company policy in terms of food safety and health & safety in accordance with HACCP.

Person Specification Requirements:

  • Knowledge of maintaining a clean, tidy, safe and hygienic environment.
  • Good knowledge of Health and Safety.
  • Ability to work well within a team.
  • Adaptable.
  • Knowledge of working in a nursing / residential home is desirable
