Department if Civil Engineering offers a position as associate professor in hygrothermal building physics.

The position belongs with the Section for Indoor Environment and Building Physics. Research, innovation and educational activities of the Section are focused on developing the experimental, analytical and computational knowledge base pertaining to environmental parameters in buildings and the human perception thereof.

Responsibilities and tasks
The research in hygrothermal building physics shall be applied in an endeavour to accomplish highly energy efficient buildings, which are well functioning and durable. We look for a candidate for the position in hygrothermal building physics who is a well-esteemed researcher in coupled heat, air, moisture and pollutant transport within and around the thermal envelope of buildings and the interaction between building structures, their materials and the indoor and outdoor environments. We assume the candidate is skilled in deployment and further development of simulation tools such as general mathematical toolboxes; models for hygrothermal transport processes in building components and whole buildings; and CFD calculations. Furthermore, we anticipate that the candidate has expertise in employment of experimental techniques to support the analytical methods and has expert knowledge on determining the hygrothermal properties and performance of buildings and their components.

The research shall be applied in conjunction with some of the below-mentioned fields of research and development, where at least some must be well known to the candidate:

- Building refurbishment
- Buildings in the context of the surrounding city/district
- Physical parameters of the indoor environment and user influence
- Hygrothermal properties of building materials
- Chemistry of building materials and indoor air, e.g. related to emission and removal of harmful compounds
- HVAC systems
- Measurement and control of hygrothermal and chemical parameters
- Outdoor climatic conditions, e.g. influence of climate change

The candidate should contribute to teaching on all levels – from elementary thermal analysis of buildings for 1st semester bachelor students to PhD-education.

Innovation activities should be carried out in close collaboration with companies and trade organizations and by possible contribution to technical committees of relevant societies and institutions. Activities on commissioned research, testing and assessments may be carried out for companies and public authorities.

Candidates must
•hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an Assistant Professorship
•document didactic/pedagogic training

Since the candidate should also contribute to teaching on the initial educational levels, and because of cooperation with all relevant stakeholders of the Danish building industry, the candidate must have sufficient communication skills in Danish or a Scandinavian language, or must be able to develop this within a period of two years.

In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to
•experience in teaching and education
•scientific production and research potential at an international level
•the ability to promote and utilize research results
•an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience
•the ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation

For the specific position consideration will also be given to:
•Experience from collaboration or employment with companies and organizations of the building industry.
•Qualifications in research management
•Experience with attraction of Funding
•The contents of a small plan of research (up to 1000 words), which the candidate should submit with the application

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
