About the University of Algarve (UAlg)

University of Algarve (UAlg) has more than 30.000 alumni and ca. 8000 students, out of which 20% are international students, from more than 80 different nationalities. Brazilian students are the most significant group within the international community.

UAlg offers more than 170 undergraduatemasters and doctorate courses, in different educational areas: Arts, Communication and Cultural Heritage; Social Sciences and Education; Healthcare Sciences and Technologies; Exact and Natural Sciences; Economics, Management and Tourism; Engineering and Technologies. Some of these (Master and Doctorate) courses are in English.

Currently UAlg also has over 20 research, study & development centres and units, in different scientific domains - adding to the quality of education taught in its Schools and Faculties a mark of excellence, also in knowledge generation and applied research.

With 40 years of existence, Algarve University appears, since 2017, in some of the international rankings evaluating Higher Education and Research. Placed amongst the best Universities in the world, UAlg has been evaluated according to several criteria by rankings of excellence which, annually, evaluate hundreds of Higher Education institutions worldwide. The quality of many different areas has been highlighted in different rankings, but UAlg's international projection is the indicator gathering the most consensus, standing out in the different rankings.

So far, Algarve University has appeared in 4 rankings (Times Higher Education, Multirank, Shanghai Ranking’s, US News & World Report and CWUR - World University Rankings), in some of them in consecutive years, showing that it really is a privilege to “study where you would like to live”.

Its privileged location nearby Faro International Airport and the big number of new air routes connecting to the main Portuguese (Lisbon and Oporto) and European cities, as well as the excellent conditions UAlg and the Algarve region have to offer, contribute to Portugal's Southern Academy increasingly central and international status.
