The European Hospitality and Tourism Skills Passport is your ticket to a new job!

A new tool on the EURES Portal allows jobseekers to specify which skills they have obtained where (within a specific sector), making it easier for employers to find exactly what they are looking for. The skills passport has already been launched for the hospitality and tourism sectors, with others to follow soon.

The hospitality and tourism sectors are by nature an environment where international experience, language skills, and mobility are highly advantageous. However, as a jobseeker it can be difficult to explain and prove to employers what a specific role in another country meant in practice. At the same time employers have trouble understanding what skills a potential employee has, just by looking at their CV. The European Hospitality and Tourism Skills Passport offers an effective and easy-to-use solution.

This new, multilingual tool on the EURES Portal enables jobseekers to create their personal skills passport by selecting the competences they have from a list – for example, kitchen skills, welcoming guests, or arranging taxi transport. Each skill has to be linked to work experiences or training where it was obtained, and it can optionally be endorsed by former employers or through diplomas.

The selected skills are automatically translated into any desired European languages. Candidates who add the skills passport to their CV can be sure that employers understand just what exactly they have done and learned during previous work experience or training.

By selecting the skills they are looking for, employers will see a filtered selection of matching skills passports and CVs from all over Europe, providing a highly diverse selection of candidates who match the job description as closely as possible.

In return, employers who appreciate the work done by their employees can help them increase their chances on the job market by endorsing the skills their employees obtained working for them. The Hospitality Skills Passport thereby becomes the modern form of a recommendation letter – simple, online, and much more widely usable.
