Xelvin is looking for a Design Engineer Senior

Description

The mechanical engineering department consists of 20 teams who are charged with the mechanical engineering part of the overall design. The Sales & Concepts department produces the concept design. The mechanical engineering department progresses to the basic design and detail design stage.

Our teams are operationally subdivided into the following product groups: Cranes, Pipelay, Drilling, After Sales & Production Support and R&D. Each team consists of four to eight engineers, led by a lead engineer. The team roles are design, structural and CAD engineer.


The position
As a senior design engineer you will be the driving force within the team. A competent and multi-deployable engineer, you are the expert within your product group who is responsible for designing, drawing out in detail and calculating complex mechanical designs.

Working under a lead engineer, you will be responsible together with the team for delivering the basic design, detail design and the shop drawings. You will be using your knowledge and experience to guarantee the content, progress and quality of the project. Your added value as a senior design engineer should be reflected in the following aspects:
• Careful conversion of concept design to basic design;
• Designing and calculating at the highest abstraction level;
• Drafting of complete purchasing specifications;
• A point of support and assistance for less experienced engineers; you will also be responsible for checking and signing off on their completed projects.
• Maintaining intensive contact with certification bodies, suppliers and engineers within other disciplines.

You will be afforded the opportunity to develop into an engineering specialist or lead engineer. Suitable training will be provided in this area, geared to your own knowledge and experience. Our Mechanical EDUcation Plan includes a number of modules relating to design and calculation. Much of the emphasis will also be on electrical engineering and hydraulics. This will also include an extensive “work experience placement” programme that will enable you to develop an overall view of the process within customer. The departments you will get to know include the following: Procurement, Work Preparation, NDT, Commissioning and Service.

Job requirements
To fill this vacancy, we are looking for a candidate with:
• Bachelor degree with a minimum 7 years’ relevant work experience or a Master degree plus a minimum 5 years’ work experience;
• Extensive knowledge of mechanical engineering, particularly in the area of cranes, winches, pipelay or drilling systems;
• Additional experience of electrical engineering and hydraulics would be an advantage;
• Experience of Autocad 2D and/or Inventor 3D would be an advantage;
• A good command of Dutch and English, both oral and written;
• Precise and efficient approach to work.
