Marketing & Communications plays a key role in creating awareness for Wärtsilä, building preference for its flexible power solutions & lifecycle services and increasing stakeholder engagement in key focus countries. 

We are now looking for a General Manager, Marketing & Communications to lead the Positioning team.  In this role you will report to the Wärtsilä Energy Marketing & Communications Director

Preferred locations are Helsinki, Vaasa, Turku and other main Wärtsilä Energy locations.

 

Your team’s main objectives are:

• Position Wärtsilä Energy as leading player in the transition towards a 100% renewable energy future.

• Define global media strategy and lead global PR campaigns.

• Create Wärtsilä Energy level marketing materials and produce articles showcasing our vision in action.

• Support the Wärtsilä Energy President with external executive communications.

• Amplify thought leadership by equipping our spokespersons to communicate the 100% renewable energy future vision.

• Ensure constant flow of high-quality press releases on significant milestones.

• Build awareness of Wärtsilä Energy through participation in top tier industry events.

• Make Wärtsilä known to the energy start-up scene and promote Wärtsilä’s new businesses.

• Support Wärtsilä Investor Relations with relevant information on Wärtsilä Energy’s value to its stakeholders.

 

In this role, your main responsibilities include: 

• Plan how to build awareness for Wärtsilä as a leader in the energy transition, by optimally engaging with target groups ranging from energy policy makers, regulators, financial institutes and customers to consumers and influencers.

• Act as line manager to a team of marketing and communications professionals, striving for high performance and high work wellbeing.

• Guide the team in defining the overall vision communication plan and executing the activities, aiming for maximal target group engagement. 

• As a member of the Wärtsilä Energy Marketing & Communications management team you actively contribute to joint cross-Energy marketing initiatives.

• Proactively develop our processes and tools, to ensure high quality, effective ways of working and staying on top of modern marketing and communication methods. 

• Partner with the Solutions and Digital marketing team as well as Area Marketing & Communications team to ensure the right message reaches the right audiences in a meaningful way.  

• Liaise with Wärtsilä Communications & Branding for alignment and a One Wärtsilä approach in marketing, communications and branding. 

• Vendor management: regularly assess what work to do in-house and what to outsource. You make sure we work with the right agencies aiming for high quality, wow-factor, relevance and cost-effectiveness. You support them in translating the Wärtsilä Energy strategy into meaningful engagements across all relevant channels. 

• Budgeting and cost-follow up.

 

As a natural part of your work, you set up analytics and reporting to enable tracking progress and results of engagements and optimise activities based on real-time data. As line manager, you act as the Positioning team’s first point of contact and coach.



An ideal candidate: 

• Minimum 10 years working experience in marketing, communications, media relations, PR, branding or related work. 

• Experience in energy industry and understanding of the energy transition is an advantage.

• Demonstrated skills of leading a team.

• Successful track record in international B2B marketing and communications, expertise in adapting content to local conditions.

• Skilled in leveraging partner network of creative and PR agencies, striving for high quality and effectiveness.

• Conceptual thinking and ability to prioritise.
