Mechanic for bike workshop / Sykkelmekaniker til sykkelverksted

Starting in Summer 2018 Tromsø Outdoor expanded offer in repairs and maintenance services for bikes and since February 2017 for skis and boards in winter.

Work in the workshop include both servicing our rental gear and equipment brought by the customers - ski gear and bikes. We have in stock over 200 bikes, 80 sets of touring skis, over 150 sets of cross country skis, 20 splitbaords and a lot of other equipment.

We are continously developing the workshop. This year, due to the covid pandemy, it became one of our main points of focus. Our goal is to keep the bike and ski workshop with high quality of services open all year round.

Therefore,we look for an experienced bike mechanic for full time or regular part time work.

Work responsibilities include

  • responsibility for maintenance and assembling rental bikes (we have in stock over 200 rental bikes, primarily touring bikes, but also e-bikes, mtb and road bikes),
  • service of bikes delivered for repair by our customers,
  • maintenance of other equipment from Tromsø Outdoor offer (training and instructions will be provided),
  • work at Tromsø Outdoor rental center (renting equipment out, advising our guests on local activities destination, sale of activities and merchandise on our shop, opening and closing the site if needed, keeping order in the shop and workshop) without major responsibility for daily operations.

The right candidate with experience and interests in the field could be considered for a leading position with more responsibilities:

  • ordering parts, tools and articles needed in the workshop
  • administration works related to the workshop
  • coordination and administration work related to bike and ski services offered locally to Tromsø Outdoor customers

To the right candidate we can offer part time contract with work duties including only work in the workshop and bike service.

Required competences and personal qualities

  • experience in bike mechanics
  • extensive knowledge about bikes mechanics and ski equipment
  • good communication and English language skills
  • basic level computer skills
  • driving licence will be an advantage but is not necessary
  • Norwegian/Sweedish/German/French/Spanish language proficiency is an advantage but is not necessary
  • attachment to the details and being used to organizing work place
  • valid permition to work and live in Norway or EU citizenship
  • positive, creative and solution oriented attitude
  • enjoying and used to working in a flexible international environment
  • being used to work independently and taking responsibility for work tasks

Working Scheme

Variable shifts between 8:00 and 19:00, usually 7.5 hours daily. Occasionally work at other times (for opening outside of the regular hours).

100 % position - ca.37.5 h/week, 2 days off for each week of work, work during the weekends and public holidays may be required.

Part time position can be offered to interested candidates with relewant experience, conditions to discuss.

We can provide opportunity to join schooling organized by our bike and ski suppliers.

Tromsø Outdoor AS has been providing professional guiding and rental services in Tromsø area since 2006.

We guide skiing, snowshoeing, cycling and hiking trips. Rental Center offer comprises of over 200 bikes, over 80 sets of touring skis, 20 splitboards, over 150 cross country skis, snowshoes, winter clothes and other gear. In the summer we open bike workshop and during the winter we offer ski services as well.

Our main focus is on the service quality (dedicated guides with local knowledge and high-quality equipment for rent), local cooperation and creating good work environment within the company. Tromsø Outdoor AS is also part of many projects focused on promotion of Tromsø region as a sustainable cycling and skiing destination. before the Covid pandemy our team consisted of 22 employees from 11 countries.

At the moment we are 5 people who work all year round with daily operations and to develop the company within the project supported by Innovation Norway.
